Project Highlights from Serve Wilkes-Barre
Everything happening at Restored is made possible by financial partners both within our church family and beyond our church who generously give external support. We’d love to invite you to partner with us financially, as we pursue gospel life change, disciple making multiplication, community development initiatives, regional collaboration and more!
You can invest one-time, annual or monthly support in our City Impact Fund.
Park Ministry & Mobile Grills
We sent teams out to serve our community in 3 key locations – Sherman Hills which is one of the largest low-income housing developments in our area, the Public Square in the center of downtown, and Kirby Park a large, centralized gathering place for families. Each team was equipped with a mobile grill, handing out free hot dogs and hamburgers, which led to numerous opportunities to pray for people and engage them in spiritual conversations!
Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness
The Red Sand Project is a participatory artwork demonstrated by pouring red sand into pavement cracks. The grains of red sand represent the millions of men, women, and children who often fall through the cracks, and are exploited daily for commercial sex or forced labor.
This demonstration was hosted by Restored, in partnership with the NEPA Task Force Against Human Trafficking.
Soccer & Basketball Outreach
A group of volunteers headed over to Coal Street Park to engage kids and families! They played a pick-up game of soccer and basketball. Later in the day, they were joined by another group bringing gatorade and lunch, which created an opportunity to connect and share!
Garden Project at local Youth Center
One of our teams built and planted 14 garden beds at a local youth center. These vegetables will resource the hundreds of kids and dozens of staff members at the center, as they serve three meals a day for all the kids that attend their programs. The children and staff alike were excited about the new garden and eager to get involved!
Supporting Pathways Pregnancy Center
We were able to continue our ongoing partnership with Pathways Pregnancy Center and support them in tangible ways! Volunteers helped to process the donations that came in from their recebt Baby Bottle Fundraiser, as well as build shelving units to create better organization for their resource closet!
Resourcing Local Agencies
A small team of volunteers had the opportunity to transform the atrium of the Luzerne County Human Resource building into a comfortable space for department meetings and conversations. We want to make sure that our frontline workers know that their valuable work is appreciated!
Blessing Bags
We had a team that packed hundreds of blessing bags that we were able to distribute to various nursing homes, community partners and first responders. Each bag contained a gospel of Mark and various other items to help them know they were remembered and appreciated!
College Ministry
Our church is within a mile of two different college campuses. One of our interns led a team of people passionate about reaching this generation, in partnership with a Christian campus ministry called DiscipleMakers. They spent the day covering the campus in prayer and showing appreciation to the staff!
Resourcing At-Risk Families
Through our partnership with CarePortal, Restored is able to provide essential resources to families in our community. CarePortal provides a connection between agency workers who are on the frontlines and churches who want to help! Caseworkers can submit requests for items on behalf of families they work with, that the church is then able to provide. We were able to deliver a couch, three beds, two strollers, two carseats and two bassinets to families in need!
Street Clean Up
Block Party at Coal Street Park
Bike Rodeo & Giveaway
One of our members had the idea to host a fun obstacle course during the block party and give away as many bikes as possible. He partnered with a local bike shop and worked with a team on Friday replacing parts to get all the bikes working. On Saturday, the Bike Rodeo drew quite the crowd! They were able to give away close to 20 bikes and have a number of spiritual conversations. We were able to follow up with a number of people who were interested in more information about Restored Kids, UNITE Youth and about becoming a follower of Jesus!
